The Allowance of Water

Summer, for myself, has always been a bit of a challenging time; I do not enjoy the heat, nor do I bask in the increased level of noise and activity in the city of Chicago due to all of the festivals and events that happen here during the season. Much like winter leads people to the mindset where they are clinging with anticipation for spring to arrive, I spend summer with much of the same anticipation for autumn to do the same. However, it is those summer evenings and late nights by Lake Michigan that remind me that there can also be a sense of peace and silence in such a busy and chaotic time. When we allow ourselves to feel that sense of calm, we can appreciate that it is those moments of wanting to escape the heat that lead us to the cooling element of Water, and in embracing that element, gifting ourselves the mindfulness that Water is the embodiment of the ability to go with the flow, to release control and let the Universe (however you may think of it) lead us where we need to go. It is therefore in my mind where summer becomes a liminal space, where I can gradually travel to the personal comfort of the soothing colors and temperatures of autumn.

As a Taurus Sun and Taurus Moon, it can be very easy to want to stay in one place and feel the soothing comfort of a predictable routine. As a Cancer Rising, however, I am frequently aware of not only the inevitability of change but also the NECESSITY for it, especially if we are wanting to continuously grow in a forward direction in our lives. I have been able to embrace that need for change, as well as the discomforts that lead me to accept those changes. Here are a few notions I have learned as I moved through this experience:

Resistance is the sign that change NEEDS to happen.

We are always going to feel resistance when we approach any transitions, even those we have been yearning to bring in for ourselves. I convey to clients regularly that we need to reframe how we approach resistance, that it is not a warning system, but a sign that change is NEEDED, and that we are ready for it, even if we are not fully feeling it.

Fear is a biological imperative, and not a sign to stop.

Fear is scientifically proven to be the shortest pathway in our brain to any emotion, due to the fact that we are primordially programmed to be survivalist creatures. When we feel fear, it is alright to accept it and process it, remembering that our intuitive selves may need a little time to come through with those other emotions that need to be heard. We are dialectic creatures after all, and it is absolutely normal and typical to feel several contrasting emotions at once. When we start to let go of fear and LISTEN to our intuition, the authentic truth can come forward for us to find clarity.

“Allow” is one of the most powerful words when it comes to manifestation.

Get “should” out of your vocabulary. Don’t try to “control,” “push,” “make,” “try,” or “chase” after what you are desiring. Remember that manifestation through the Law of Attraction requires us to conspire with Spirit, and that means after some time focusing on how we want to feel in the long term, we allow ourselves to hand it over to the Universe, and let it do its job as part of a sense of teamwork. We allow ourselves to let go of what doesn’t serve us, and allow ourselves to feel what it is we want or need for ourselves and our lives.

The Law of Attraction is not about how you want things to “look,” but how you want them to “feel.”

As a practicing alchemist (and this is only my personal opinion), turning lead into gold is the process of changing the “needing” or “wanting” self (lead) into the “accomplished” self (gold). Gold is the symbol of our emotional selves attaining what we need, which is in reality the true final result of manifestation; how we feel after attaining something that feels great for us leads us to want more of it. We often presume that a certain person, place, object, job, idea, etc. will bring us those feelings, but in line with the Law of Attraction, I encourage folks to ask themselves “How do I want to FEEL long-term?” This could specified further if you would like in the form of “What does my ideal relationship/career/abundance feel like long term?” Let your inner child imagine the emotions you want to feel, and allow the Universe to bring you what aligns with those feelings. It could end up being what you expected, or not at all, but trust that the Universe will bring in the best quality result for your needs because you’ve allowed it to take the time it needed to organically unfold it for you.

The Allowance of Water

I love this practice because you can do this in any body of water, from submerging in a lake or pool, to dipping yourself into the tub, or simply dipping your hand in a bowl of water. The important thing to be mindful about here, no matter what you choose, is to focus on the fully embraceable nature of water, how it makes contact with every single surface of you that is submerged.

Submerge your body or hand into the water. Spend a few moments feeling the water touching every part of you. With your hand(s) in the water, trace the elemental symbol of Water as such: 🜄

As you trace the symbol, feel the movement and resistance of the water against your skin, and intone the following:

Hail to the Power of Water,

Element of Intuition, Allowing, and Acceptance!

Through the assistance of the Archangel Gabriel/my Higher Self, I give myself permission

To release self-appointed expectations, And allow myself to follow the flow of The Universal Energy,

Knowing that it will lead me to the best result Of what is looking to align with me.

Note: I list the Archangel Gabriel because I also work with angels of the elements, but you can call on whichever deity connected to the element that you would like, including the Higher Self if you lean towards a more atheistic or agnostic bend. Spend as much time as you need in the water to process the moment, and when you are done, feel free to exit the water and move on with your day. You can also say the following to close the ritual if you would like:

Thank you, (Archangel Michael and the) Powers of Water.

I close this ritual with love and gratitude.

Present your energies when you feel I am in need of them.

I am open, and will gladly and humbly accept.

Hail and Farewell!
